    "Open-sky" Cataract Extraction

    02:00
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Drs. Meriem Ouederni and Fehmy Nafaa perform an open-sky extracapsular cataract extraction for a total cataract associated with a fibrotic pupillary membrane. After trephination of host cornea and removal of the pupillary membrane to release the iris synechiae, open-sky pupil stretching was performed. Viscoelastic was used to get better pupillary dilation while performing capsulorrhexis, gently extracting the nucleus using 2 instruments. Then, a Charleux cannula was used for cortex removal and a polymethylmethacrylate IOL was implanted in the bag. The procedure was completed by the suturing of a donor graft and formation of an anterior chamber.
