In this video, Dr. Jay Sridhar demonstrates repair of a recurrent proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) retinal detachment with removal of subretinal band and relaxing retinectomy. The patient had a history of previous retinal detachment repair. A vitreous cutter was used to remove posterior capsular plaque to enable visualization of the retina. An examination revealed a macular involving tractional retinal detachment with a large subretinal band. Using diathermy, Dr. Sridhar creates a retinectomy and removes the band using MaxGrip forceps. Due to persistent traction and subretinal fluid in the temporal region, a vitrector was used to create a relaxing retinectomy, enabling the retina to flatten in all quadrants.
