Sewing Machine Iridodialysis Repair

Dr. K. V. Ravi Kumar demonstrates his closed-chamber technique for iridodialysis repair based on a sewing machine principle using a 26-gauge needle and 10-0 polypropylene. After creating a scleral tunnel parallel to the damaged portions of the iris, he makes suture loops along the dialysis, which is then passed through the iris from inside out. Once this is complete, the loops are cut and tied, and the knots are buried into the scleral tunnel followed by closure of the conjunctiva. This novel, economical and minimally invasive technique is also simple enough to be performed safely by surgeons of varying skill.
