In this video, Dr. John Hovanesian describes his technique for implanting the Dextenza intracanalicular steroid insert. He places a punctal dilator into lower lid punctum and dries the surface prior to inserting the steroid plug. Additionally, he offers tips on how to troubleshoot challenging insertion cases. The insert was approved by the FDA in December 2018 based on results from two phase 3 trials showing that the device is effective for treating ocular pain and inflammation following cataract surgery.
