Instead of prescribing postoperative drops for his cataract patients, Dr. Ahad Mahootchi prefers to administer an intraoperative injection of compounded triamcinolone/moxifloxacin/vancomycin, or TriMoxiVanc. Dr. Mahootchi demonstrates how he injects the drug through the temporal wound using an angled 30-gauge cannula placed behind the zonules. The intravitreal injection avoids compliance issues, says Dr. Mahootchi, and it is both convenient for him and cost-effective for his patients.
