Using a Slit Lamp for Toric Axis Marking

In this clinical video, Dr. Ashish Sapkal describes how to use a smartphone-based level app to calibrate precise alignment of the slit-lamp beam. Using the smartphone’s gyroscope, the level app gives the position of the beam with an accuracy of 0.1 degree. Dr. Sapkal also describes how to create a simple bilateral marking instrument by bending 2 dials. By using these methods and understanding the limitations of marking, surgeons can create more accurate marks for toric IOL implantation.
