    A total of 171 subjects were identified from the National Registry of Drug-Induced Ocular Side Effects, World Health Organization, and Food and Drug Administration who took fluoroquinolones and experienced diplopia.  According to World Health Organization criteria, the relationship between fluoroquinolone therapy and diplopia is "possible" based on the reported time relationship, multiple positive dechallenge and rechallenge reports A plausible mechanism of diplopia offered by the authors is tendinitis of the extraocular muscles. The median time from beginning fluoroquinolone therapy until diplopia onset was 9.6 days
