Good visual results, high rate of spectacle independence with apodized diffractive aspheric multifocal IOL

This prospective study was conducted at five European and included 93 patients implanted with the AcrySof IQ ReSTOR SN6AD1 IOL with +3.0 D add power. The lenses provided a broad range of optimum near vision, good intermediate visual acuity. At six months, uncorrected visual acuity (logMAR) was -0.03 ± 0.13 at 4 m, 0.20 ± 0.14 at 70 cm, 0.13 ± 0.15 at 60 cm, 0.05 ± 0.18 at 50 cm and 0.04 ± 0.11 at 40 cm. Mean patient-preferred near distance was 41 ± 4 cm, at which distance the mean visual acuity was -0.01 ± 0.11 logMAR.  Patients were highly satisfied with their vision, reporting low rates of visual disturbances, and 88 percent were spectacle independent.
