A 2008 online poll of approximately 250 members of the United Kingdom & Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons finds that since the release of the ESCRS Endophthalmitis Study showing significant decrease in post-cataract surgery endophthalmitis rates with intracameral cefuroxime, 55 percent have adopted this protocol. Forty-eight percent of intracameral cefuroxime users said they switched to it after the study's publication. The biggest barrier to further intracameral cefuroxime adoption among the 98 respondents was the lack of a commercially available pre-formulated preparation.
