Retina/Vitreous
Researchers randomized 78 eyes with stage 2 or 3 idiopathic macular hole into one of three groups: vitrectomy alone, vitrectomy plus 0.05% isotonic ICG-assisted ILM peeling, vitrectomy plus 0.15% Trypan Blue (TB)-assisted ILM peeling. ILM peeling was found to induce significantly higher closure rates than non-peeling (stage 2: 100% vs. 55%; stage 3: 90% vs. 36%). Visual outcome with ICG staining was not significantly different than in the non-peeling or TB peeling in eyes.
