Pediatric Ophth/Strabismus
This is the first study to measure plasma levels of angiogenic factors in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) throughout the first weeks of life. Researchers found that preterm infants with active ROP had higher levels of sVEGFR-2 and sTie2, compared to preterm infants without ROP. They conclude that plasma levels of angiogenic factors may be important surrogate markers in ROP, but their possible predictive value for the development of ROP has yet to be confirmed.
