Prophylactic cryotherapy can substantially reduce the risk of retinal detachment in type 1 Stickler syndrome

This large retrospective analysis finds that only 8 percent of patients who received prophylactic treatment suffered retinal detachment during a mean follow-up of 11.5 years, compared with 73 percent in the untreated group. No treated patient experienced bilateral detachment, while 48 percent of retinal detachments occurring in the control group were bilateral.
