Researchers took three spectral-domain (SD) OCT scans and one time-domain (TD) OCT scan on the same day from each of 16 healthy subjects and 39 glaucoma patients. SD OCT retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements were highly repeatable in healthy and glaucomatous eyes. RNFL measurements taken with SD OCT and TD OCT correlated well. However, TD OCT recorded thicker RNFL measurements than did SD OCT. The authors conclude that measurements with these instruments should not be considered interchangeable.
