Corneal Neurotization

Dr. Anthony Wong and colleagues demonstrate the surgical steps of a corneal neurotization procedure in a patient with poorly controlled neurotropic keratopathy. First, dissection was performed one plane at a time through the orbicularis oculi muscle in order to isolate the supraorbital nerve. Another incision was made along the medial brow, and a blunt push-and-spread technique released the supraorbital nerve from the adjacent periosteum and ligaments until the nerve was exposed in the dorsal subcutaneous plane. The subcutaneous plane was then dissected further via a second brow incision. Once the nerve was isolated and cut at the distal ends, a neural hitch was created and additional cuts in the nerve were made.
