Cataract/Anterior Segment
In this 1-Minute Video, Drs. Meriem Ouederni and Fehmy Nafaa describe how to perform phacoemulsification in an eye with an annular lifebuoy cataract. This rare cataract is characterized by the presence of central membrane without crystalline nucleus surrounded by an opaque ring. Capsulorrhexis should be performed at the level of the ring as the anterior and posterior capsules are welded. After ring phacoemulsification, the central membrane should be gently removed to preserve a small and round posterior rhexis, which allows for foldable IOL implantation in the bag.
