Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Immunosuppression, Uveitis
In this 1-Minute Video, Dr. Ashvini Reddy explains how to manage uveitis in women who are pregnant. Luckily, treatment becomes easier during the course of pregnancy, she explains. Anti-VEGF agents cannot be used for uveitic macular edema because of the potential risk to the fetus. Immunosuppressants, meanwhile, may need to be adjusted; drugs such as methotrexate should be discontinued. Steroids are the most frequently used treatment for pregnant women, she notes, but patients should be carefully monitored.
