Crosslinking for Post-LASIK Ectasia
Refractive Subspecialty Day 2016
Refractive Mgmt/Intervention
More than 10 years after the introduction of the technique by the Dresden protocol, corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) with riboflavin (a vitamin B2 molecule) and ultraviolet A can now be considered an established option for the management of progressive keratoconus. The procedure increases corneal resistance and inhibits progression of the ectatic disorder, which is applicable not only in keratoconus, but in pellucid marginal corneal degeneration and induced keratectasia after LASIK.
