Crosslinking and Topography-Guided PRK
AAO 2016
Cataract/Anterior Segment, Corneal Refractive Surgery, Refractive Mgmt/Intervention
In this presentation from AAO 2016, Raymond M. Stein, MD, presents the following points:
- Arrest the disease and improve best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).
- An accurate diagnosis of keratoconus with either topography or a slitlamp should be conducted.
- Better results are achieved with differences of less than 10 diopters across the cornea.
- This technology is useful for both progressive and nonprogressive cases.
- He is a strong advocate of bilateral crosslinking in patients who are less than 25 years old.
- Technology will continue to evolve and improve.
The presentation was followed by an interactive panel discussion regarding such topics as BCVA, and epithelium mapping. This presentation was co-sponsored by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
