Glaucoma Medication: What Is Available, and How Can I Get It to My Patients?

    Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2022
    Glaucoma, Medical Therapy

Dr. Joshua Stein explains the different types of glaucoma medication in this presentation from Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2022. There are 7 main classes, and Dr. Stein broadly categorizes glaucoma medications as ones that decrease aqueous production and ones that increase aqueous outflow. He reviews peak effect, administration, side effects, and other factors for the following:

    • prostaglandin analogues
    • topical beta-blockers
    • alpha agonists
    • carbonic anhydrase inhibitors
    • Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors
    • combination medications

He also addresses barriers to medication use, such as affordability and difficulties in administration.
