    Going Deep Into the Sclera

    AAO2021 Video Program
    Glaucoma

Surgeries involving the sclera are not infrequent in the glaucoma setting, although some of these are not rutinary. In the present video, four distinct surgeries are showcased, with each video involving more and more deeper sclera planes. These surgeries are a deep nonpenetrating sclerectomy, a trans-scleral cyclodialysis repair, a direct cyclodialysis repair and a ciliary body biopsy. Along with each video we present a small patient description and the clinical setting before the surgery, IOP and visual acuity. A diagram of each surgery is drawn to make it easier for the viewers to orient themselves along the anatomical structures and surgical planes. All the videos can be mixed-and-matched with videos of cyclists (ophthalmology attendings and fellows) with terrains of different level of difficulty. The surgeries are presented according to how much the sclera is penetrated; these surgeries are a deep nonpenetrating sclerectomy, a trans-scleral cyclodialysis repair, a direct cyclodialysis repair and a ciliary body biopsy.
