Postop En Face OCT Demonstrating Macular Hole Closure in the Macular Plug Technique Without Gas Tamponade or Prone Positioning

    AAO2021 Video Program
    Retina/Vitreous

In this video presentation, we will demonstrate the sequence of events leading to closure of the retinal layers in the postoperative en face optical coherence tomography of patients who underwent repair of large stage 3 and 4 macular holes by the modified macular plug technique without gas tamponade or prone positioning. Closure occurred sequentially from the inner to the outer retinal layers. Restoration of the outer retinal integrity occurred within the first postoperative month. Persistent internal limiting membrane flaps were observed up to 12 months follow up.
