Rapid Resolution of Hydrops Using a Modified Technique of Compression Sutures

    AAO 2022 Video Program
    Cornea/External Disease, Ectasia

There are several methods of managing hydrops: namely, conservative medical management, descemetopexy with long-acting gases, venting incision, and compression suturing to bring together the edges of the posterior tear. This video demonstrates a modified technique of compression suturing in acute hydrops involving a large area of the cornea that helps in rapid resolution of stromal edema. The various case scenarios and mechanism underlying the rapid resolution of edema are discussed.
