    Therapeutic Vitrectomy

    By E. Mitchel Opremcak, MD
    Subspecialty Day 2012: Uveitis
    Uveitis

In this presentation from the 2012 Annual Meeting, Dr. Mitchel Opremcak discusses vitrectomy for repair of structural complications of uveitis and for control of active disease. Based on Dr. Opremcak's review of recent studies, pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) appears safe and helpful in controlling inflammation, reducing CME, improving visual acuity, and reducing the number of medications required to control uveitis in some patients. Despite evidence in the literature, a well-designed, multicentered, randomized, and controlled clinical trial is still needed.
