Uveitis and Glaucoma

Dr. Todd Margolis, a uveitis specialist, discusses elevated IOP associated with acute episodes of ocular inflammation. Elevated IOP in this setting is almost always due to an infectious process and should be managed accordingly. The 3 most recognized causes are Toxoplasma gondii, herpes simplex virus (HSV), and varicella zostervirus (VZV). Dr. Margolis also discusses the clinical features of rubella virus and cytomegalovirus (CMV) iritis. The acutely elevated IOP in most eyes with these infections responds promptly to proper management of the uveitis, without the need for glaucoma medication.
