Chapter 7: Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma
Open-Angle Glaucoma Without Elevated IOP (Normal-Tension Glaucoma, Low-Tension Glaucoma)
Diagnostic Evaluation
The clinical assessment in patients with NTG should mirror that of any other open-angle glaucoma (see Chapter 3). In addition, the clinician must carefully review the patient’s medical history for conditions that cause an optic nerve appearance and/or visual field defects similar to those seen in NTG: these conditions include significant systemic hemorrhage associated with low blood pressure, myocardial infarction, or shock.
