Part I: Ophthalmic Pathology
Chapter 13: Eyelids
Cysts
Ductal Cysts
The eyelid contains the ducts of numerous structures, including the lacrimal gland and the apocrine and eccrine sweat glands. Cysts may develop in any of these ducts. A cyst arising from the duct of the lacrimal gland is called dacryops. Cysts arising from sweat ducts are referred to as either apocrine or eccrine hidrocystomas (Fig 13-11). Histologically, ductal cysts typically are lined with a double layer of cuboidal epithelium, as are the ducts from which they arise. The lumen of the cyst typically appears empty.
