Chapter 13: Surgical Therapy for Glaucoma
Cyclodestruction
Postoperative Care
After surgery, topical and/or subconjunctival steroids are used to control inflammation. Cycloplegics mitigate postoperative pain by paralyzing the ciliary muscles, which are often inflamed after treatment. Medical ocular hypotensive therapy is continued in the immediate postoperative period and then tapered as appropriate. Oral analgesics, including narcotics, may be required for pain control.
