10 Glaucoma
Chapter 3: Clinical Evaluation: History
Importance of Patient History
Quality of Life
It is also important to ask patients with glaucoma about any effects of the disease on their quality of life, such as the ability to drive, walk, find objects, or maintain social interactions. Patients who report progressive decline in quality of life may require more aggressive interventions to control the disease and may benefit from evaluation by a low vision specialist. In patients with very severe glaucoma and advanced visual field loss, subjective changes in quality of vision may be the only indicator that the disease is not adequately controlled.
