  • Dr. Werner is an associate professor of ophthalmology and co-director of the Intermountain Ocular Research Center at the John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. From 2006 to 2008, she was also director of pre-clinical research of the Berlin Eye Research Institute, Berlin, Germany. She has a MD degree from Brazil, and a PhD degree (Biomaterials) from France. She is the 2003 Research to Prevent Blindness Olga Keith Wiess Scholar awardee, member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JCRS) and EyeWorld magazine, member of the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club, member of the Continuing Medical Education Advisory Committee of ASCRS, and member of the Cataract Subcommittee of the AAO Annual Meeting Program Committee. She has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and chapters on the subject of intraocular lenses and other ocular implantable biodevices and received numerous awards for her scientific work in international meetings around the world.
