  • Michael F. Chiang, MD is the Herbert Irving Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  His research focuses on the applications of computer and communication technologies to ophthalmology, particularly involving the implementation and evaluation of telemedicine and information systems.  He received a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, and an M.A. in biomedical informatics from Columbia University.  He completed residency and pediatric ophthalmology fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.  Dr. Chiang has received grants and awards from numerous organizations, including the National Institutes of Health and Research to Prevent Blindness.  He is a member of the AAO Medical Information Technology Committee and the Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee, and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association
