Double Rescue of Broken Sutures in Scleral-fixated IOLs

    Retina/Vitreous

When using forceps to internalize Gore-Tex sutures during IOL placement, the filament may inadvertently be cut. If a suture breaks and the end is still externalized, another Gore-Tex suture can be tied around the externalized end and pulled back through the sclerotomy. If a suture breaks internally and the haptics are lost in the posterior segment, providing sufficient lighting (e.g., using a chandelier) allows the passage of a new Gore-Tex suture through the haptics so the lens can be anteriorized again. Using forceps in both hands to externalize the suture can also be employed.
