Manual Removal of IOL Deposits with FINESSE Flex Loop

Drs. Danny Mammo and Aleksandra Rachitskaya present the case of a 92-year-old man with dense asteroid hyalosis and prior cataract extraction and intraocular lens insertion 20 years previously who underwent YAG capsulotomy 3 years prior to presentation. During that time, his vision subsequently dropped to 20/80 due to development of dystrophic calcified IOL deposits. A FINESSE Flex loop was used to gently scrape the deposits and IOL exchange was avoided. A complete pars plana vitrectomy with careful elevation of the hyaloid addressed the asteroid hyalosis.
