Dr. Amar Agarwal demonstrates a new technique for pupil reconstruction: the single-pass 4-throw pupilloplasty. He begins with a single pass of a 9-0 or 10-0 Prolene suture on a long arm needle through the iris tissue, followed by creation of a loop with 4 throws around it that slides inside the eye. The maneuver creates a helical configuration that prevents the suture from unraveling. Dr. Agarwal demonstrates the use of the technique in a patient with a traumatic subluxated cataract with mydriasis, and in a separate case with optic capture.
Dr. Agarwal fully describes the technique in this paper from the European Journal of Ophthalmology.
