    Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Retina

    Dr. Julia Haller discusses diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the retina subspecialty. She identifies 3 steps for continuing progress. The first is identifying the problem, which she says the group has done done effectively. The second step is to make corrections and measure progress, looking at what works. When women are included in planning groups for professional or society meetings, for example, it leads to more women presenters. The third step is encouraging young people of all races and ethnicities to join the field of retina. She says we need to reflect on the beauty and quality of life that diversity brings.
