In this interview from AAO 2018, Dr. Ronald Krueger describes the ongoing shift to fuse cornea and refractive surgery, which was the topic of his Barraquer Lecture presentation. Since tissue is often removed to treat myopia, he proposes that reimplanting lenticules may represent a viable method to treat presbyopia, hyperopia and keratoconus. Eye banks are already beginning to develop a system to meet these needs, suggesting that refractive eye banking may represent a new frontier in refractive surgery.
