Dr. Surendra Basti shares pearls about how to perform the Yamane technique during cataract surgery, notably the critical step of centration and the benefits of using the Fram Yamane marker. If the marks are placed exactly where desired on the marker, then the surgeon need only place the ring in contact with the surface of the eye. Dr. Basti also notes that the marker removes the difficulty of the acute angle turn of 90 degrees of the original Yamane technique, because the surgeon is able to obliquely enter the eye on each side in a controlled way, giving the best chance for achieving symmetry.
