Anne M. Menke, Patient Safety Manager at OMIC (Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company), addressed the relationship between professional liability and professional responsibilities built into the Academy Code of Ethics. A complex case study was presented containing both ethical dilemmas and liability issues. The case study illustrated the complexities involved in appropriately analyzing a tangled series of events leading to a patient’s poor outcome.
