Can blepharitis cause swelling below the eyebrow?

Question:
Can blepharitis cause swelling on the skin below brow and the eye crease but no swelling of the eyelid margins?
Answer:
Blepharitis can cause swelling of the soft tissue as you describe rather than swelling along the lid margin exclusively. This is especially true for someone with ocular rosacea or sensitive skin.
Other causes of eyelid swelling must be ruled out, including thyroid eye disease (Graves' disease), allergy and infection. An in-person exam with an ophthalmologist will clarify the source of the swelling and how best to treat it.
