Question:
My wife cannot have any sedation. Can she have cataract surgery without sedation? She has had other eye procedures performed with only local anesthesia.
Answer:
Cataract surgery is usually done with local/topical (eye drops) anesthesia. She may have some slight discomfort at the beginning of the surgery, but many patients decide to have no intravenous (given into the vein) sedating medications.
