  • Can a choroidal nevus be removed?

    Question:

Can a choroidal nevus be removed surgically?

    Answer:

Because of its location so close to the retina, a choroidal nevus cannot be removed without great risk to the eye. But a choroidal nevus should be monitored regularly for growth or change in appearance. However, it is quite rare for a nevus to develop into a melanoma (cancerous growth).
