Question:
Can distance vision still need correction after a basic monofocal lens was implanted during cataract surgery? I have 20/30 vision in that eye three days after surgery and was wondering if I will still need glasses for distance vision for that eye, or whether the imperfect vision is due to mild corneal swelling and will correct on its own in the next month or two.
Answer:
Although it is possible that your vision will improve a bit further, you probably will need to have glasses to see "perfectly" at distance.
Many cataract surgeons choose to use an implant that renders an eye a bit near-sighted, so that at least large objects can be visualized at near without glasses. Regardless, a weak prescription may be necessary for optimal distance vision.
