• Can eye injections cause stomach pain?

    Question:

I had an eye injection to treat diabetic retinopathy (a complication of diabetes that can cause damage to the back of the eye) a few days ago. Everything went well, however, the next day I had a terrible stomach ache similar to appendicitis pain. Could this be a reaction to any of the medicines used during the eye procedure?

    Answer:

I do not think that you abdominal pain can be related to any of the medications used to treat your diabetic retinopathy. I think it is safe for you to continue these injections if recommended by your physician. Be sure to mention your concerns to your doctor.
