Safe to continue welding after a pterygium?
One of the theories for the formation of pterygia is exposure to ultraviolet radiation. As a result, the prevalence of pterygia is much higher for welders as well as for people who live in tropical climates. While having a pterygium does not prevent you from working as a welder, it is very important to wear proper eye protection that blocks UV light rays to minimize the risk of progression of pterygia or development of skin cancers.
