Can I go scuba diving after cataract surgery?
SEP 21, 2015
Question:
I just had cataract surgery this month. My eye surgeon recommends that I not scuba dive for approximately two months. Her primary concern is infection and I am taking prescription eye drops for the next two months to reduce that risk. My vision has returned to 20-20 and I do not want to do anything to risk that. Do you believe that in two months I can return to technical diving? I am qualified to go to 50 Meters.
Answer:
I would always listen to the advice of your operating surgeon. That being said, the surgical wound is usually tight within 2 weeks and the risk even at depth would be minimal.
