Can I have cataract surgery if I have retinal dystrophy?
OCT 19, 2016
Question:
I have retinal dystrophy and mild cataracts. When my cataracts mature, is it possible to have them removed or would it not be an option?
Answer:
Yes, cataract surgery will be possible, and if and when the cataracts are affecting your vision significantly, it should be a good idea. There are many types of retinal dystrophies (a group of conditions one is born with that damage the retina over time), and any impact that they might have on surgical success would require much more information. Please discuss this with your cataract and/or retinal specialist.
