  • Can I ride rollercoasters with severe myopia?

    I have pretty severe myopia (-8.5 in each eye). Is it OK for me to ride rollercoasters, or should I not risk it?


    Answer:

    I am guessing you are concerned about retinal tears or retinal detachment. Your myopia should not cause any significant increased risk related to riding rollercoasters. The only activities that might increase your risk are those that can involve direct trauma to the eyeball, such as boxing or even basketball, where you risk being poked in the eye.
