Can I wear a patch following retinal surgery?
FEB 22, 2022
Question:
I wear an eye patch sometimes through the day when my eye is uncomfortable while reading or watching TV. My surgery was about three weeks ago. I am 83 and could not be in the
face-down recovery position at night, but I was face-down most of the day. Is the patch helpful?
Answer:
If your vision is blurry in one eye following surgery, covering the blurry eye while it is healing may help you see more comfortably. Normally images from both eyes are combined to lead to one image that you see, and if you cover the blurry eye you will only have one clear image from the better-seeing eye. This will not strain the better-seeing eye and is OK temporarily while your eye is healing.
