  • I understand the stye, but what is the deal with the puffiness and bruising?

    Question:

I woke up four days ago and noticed some bruising and slight puffiness under my right eye and then a stye appeared. I understand the stye, but what is the deal with the puffiness and bruising? It's almost swollen.

    Answer:

A stye is an inflammation of one of the oil glands in the eyelid. Puffiness and even a bit of darkness is not unexpected with this condition. It is recommended that you use warm compresses and a topical antibiotic/steroid eye drop to promote healing of the stye. Your ophthalmologist can prescribe the appropriate medication to treat you.
