Can you test drive monovision in glasses?
SEP 07, 2021
Question:
I am having cataract surgery and considering monovision. A contact lens “test drive” was recommended to see if I would adapt well. I struggle with contact lenses—would similar correction in glasses would work as an alternative method over contacts?
Answer:
No, you cannot see how well you might adapt to monovision by “test-driving” in glasses. I have rarely seen successful monovision (one eye corrected for near vision and one for distance vision) in a patient who has not worn the same correction for years in contact lenses.
There are very good IOLs (intraocular lenses) now available that can give you a continuous range of vision in both eyes.
