  • How long does a cataract surgery patient have to use eye drops and why?

    Question:

How long does a cataract surgery patient have to use eyedrops and why?

    Answer:

Antibiotic eyedrops are used after cataract surgery to prevent infection and steroid and NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) eyedrops are used to reduce and eliminate inflammation. Typically, the antibiotic drops are used for about a week, while the anti-inflammatory drops are used three to six weeks or longer in some cases. Discuss your concerns with your ophthalmologist and I'm certain that he/she will explain your specific situation.
